About Me
Welcome! My name is Melissa,
but most people just call me Mel. I hail from a little town called Bellaire in
the great northern Michigan where I learned to
ski at Shanty Creek and swim in beautiful Torch Lake.
I graduated from Bellaire High School in 2004 and attended Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City for my general college education. It was here that my passion for writing was discovered and honed with the help of the faculty and my co-workers at the Writing Center.
In January 2008 I transferred to Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant where I pursued this passion through the Journalism Department. I focused my schooling not only on writing, but promotion as well with classes that centered on public relations. In addition to my studies, I was also an active member of Central Michigan University's Public Relations Student Society of America chapter and served as Treasurer and Assistant Account Executive for the student-run, full-service public relations firm on campus, PR Central. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Central Michigan in December 2010 with a bachelor's degree in journalism with a public relations concentration.
I have worked as an intern at the Antrim Review, a small newspaper that provides coverage for my hometown and its surrounding communities, as the Local Events Reporter and at Shanty Creek Resorts as a Marketing Specialist. Currently I work as the Communications Specialist and Social Marketing Coordinator at Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority.
Please feel free to look through my work samples on this site and contact me with any questions. Also note that my resume is available for more details about my past experience.
